Ecton Mine Derbyshire Dales Trip

After the Summer exams, the LAET students embarked on an exhilarating three-day, two-night residential trip to the Ecton Mine and Eyam village in Staffordshire.

The trip, led by the Geography, Chemistry, and Biology departments, provided an immersive experience for Year 12 students. From exploring real-world chemistry above and below ground to understanding geological timescales and the historical impact of the plague on Eyam village in the 17th Century, the trip had a significant practical element that truly brought learning to life.

Students had the unique opportunity to witness faults and folds, as well as delve into the social, psychological, and biological implications of the plague on this isolated village.

Self-catering their meals, the students even managed to whip up some stellar-tasting food, adding a fun twist to the experience.

They also explored the local countryside and villages, creating an unforgettable link between chemistry, geography, geology, biology, and history.

This trip was an incredible opportunity for the students to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting and make lasting connections between various fields of study.
