Futures Drop Down Day and Evening

Empowering LAE Tottenham Sixth Form Students for Success

At LAE Tottenham, we are committed to preparing our students for their futures, whether it be through higher education or embarking on their chosen career paths. Recently, we hosted two events focused entirely on equipping our students with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions about their post-18 destinations: Futures Drop Down Day and Futures Evening.

Futures Drop Down Day

Our school-wide Futures Drop Down Day commenced with inspiring presentations from members of staff who shared their personal university journeys.  Teachers also provided invaluable advice on navigating the challenges of higher education, including tackling concepts such as impostor syndrome. These presentations served as a motivating kick-off to the day, setting the stage for what was to come.

Mini-University Fair

Following the presentations, LAET held a mini-university fair for Year 12 students, featuring over 15 representatives from universities across the country, including Cambridge, King’s College London, Warwick, and Birmingham. This allowed them to gain insight into various subject offerings and life at different universities, aiding them in making informed decisions about their future academic pursuits.

Moreover, we were privileged to welcome back LAE Tottenham alumni in various capacities. Four alumni engaged in a dynamic Q&A session, sharing their experiences as current university students, university life, pursuing careers in medicine, and life post-university. Additionally, alumni who pursued degree apprenticeships shared their journeys and what they found to be the advantages of this pathway, one which is fully supported by our school.

University of Bath

In a comprehensive talk on university applications, a spokesperson from the University of Bath provided guidance to Year 12 students on making informed university choices.

Unifrog

Lastly, our students delved into the intricacies of Unifrog, a school platform designed to track student progress and achievements, ensuring they are well-equipped for success.

Year 12 Futures Evening

Our Year 12 Futures Evening mirrored a parents' evening but with a comprehensive focus on futures. Staff delivered informative talks on UCAS, the Oxbridge admissions process, how applications work within medical fields. Our dedicated careers team, along with an alumnus, provided insights into career pathways and degree apprenticeships.

These events were not only enriching but also empowering, equipping our students with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate their futures with confidence and clarity. At LAE Tottenham, we are committed to nurturing the aspirations of our students and preparing them for the opportunities that lie ahead.

Together, we are helping to shape futures, one student at a time.
