Success at the English Schools Cross Country Cup

Yesterday, our runners put in a fantastic performance at the English Schools Cross Country Cup, marking a major milestone for our school. In a historic first, this year saw both the launch of LAET’s very first Cross Country Club and our inaugural entry into this highly competitive national tournament. We are exceptionally proud to announce that the boys' team has officially qualified for the Regional Finals!

The English Schools Cross Country Cup is a prestigious team competition where runners from across the country compete in preliminary rounds to earn a spot at the national level. Success at this stage relies heavily on endurance, tactical pacing, and strong collective finishes. The upcoming Regional Finals in November will raise the stakes even higher, as our team will face off against top qualifying schools on a challenging, longer course.

A huge part of this success is thanks to Year 13 student Tam, who helped pioneer the club and lead the team to victory. Driven by a desire to bring this opportunity to LAET, Tam shared that he felt it would be "empowering to participate as a school in such a prestigious sporting event" and wanted to share that experience with his fellow students.

As a coach and leader, Tam noted that his favourite part of the journey has been witnessing his peers' dedication, emphasising that "the secret to success is turning up week after week."

Reflecting on the team's qualification for the Regionals, Tam expressed how great the achievement felt while keeping his eyes firmly on the future. "Although we didn't have the execution we wanted, we still managed to get through," he noted, "giving us another opportunity to execute what we are capable of in November."

We look forward to supporting the boys' team in the next round and wish them the very best of luck as they prepare for November's race. For any students who have been inspired by their success and are looking to get involved in cross country, Tam’s advice is simple: "Give it a go!"
